Glossary:

Pallet Dimensions: When specifying pallet size, the stringer or stringerboard (block pallet) length is always expressed first. Example: a 48"x40" pallet has a 48" stringer or stringerboard and 40" deckboards.

Two-Way Entry Pallet: A pallet with un-notched solid stringers allowing entry only from the ends.

Partial Four Way Stringer Pallet: A pallet with notched stringers (specify heel size).

Block Pallet: A pallet with blocks between the pallet decks or beneath the top deck.

Dressed: Indicates the lumber has been planed smooth, as opposed to rough. This results in a small finished dimension - e.g 2x4 is 1.5x3.5.

Flush Pallet: Pallet with deckboards flush with the stringers, stringerboards or blocks along the sides of the pallet.

Four Way Block Pallet: Pallet with openings at both pallet ends and along sides sufficient to admit hand-pallet jacks; full four way entry.

Leadboard: The first (and last) board on the pallet deck.

Notched Stringer: Stringer with 2 notches spaced for fork-tine entry, usually 9" long, 1 1/2" deep (partial 4 way entry) (specify heel size).

Opening Height: Vertical distance measured between decks, from the floor to the undersdie of the top deck, or from the top of the stringer notch.

Overall Height: Vertical distance measured from the floor to the top side of the top deck.

Single-Wing Pallet: Pallet with the top deckboards extending beyond the edges of the stringers or stringerboards with bottom deckboards flush.

Stringer: Continuous, longitudinal, solid or notched beam-component of the pallet used to support deck components, often identified by location as the outside or centre stringer.

Wing: Overhang of deckboard end from outside edge of stringer or stringerboard.
